MOVING TIPS
SAVE TIME AND MONEY
-
Box up as many items as possible. Making several trips back and forth with small, loose items is not a good use of time or, more importantly, your money. We recommend using similarly sized and weighted boxes as much as possible. To make stacking for hauling to the truck, and packing into truck much easier and simple, and therefore faster and more cost effective.
-
To safely move items such as dresser, desk, file cabinet, wardrobe or armoire please remove and box items prior to move.
-
When packing books or paper dense items, make sure to pack in small book boxes. A large box will likely tear and be more difficult to maneuver.
-
Make sure to label your box contents and note if the items are fragile or very heavy. This will make your move faster and help stay organized. Making unpacking easy with boxes marked to each room.
-
Give yourself enough time to pack. Usually, it will take longer than expected to pack items. In the past we have had clients that are not prepared far enough when we arrive. This can impact loading items into the truck in a timely manner. We recommend packing to be completed by the night before your move to give yourself cushion.
-
Pack a box with the items you will immediately need when arriving at your new location. Some examples to consider are your rental agreement, cleaning supplies, snacks, trash bags, toothbrush, etc.
-
If you have more boxes or items than initially thought, make sure to update us on that. So that we can be properly prepared with a larger truck or to know if an extra mover would be needed. Having the right number of movers will save you on time and having the right truck will save you on the number of trips needed to be made from your old to new place.
-
It is also important to let us know of any unusual circumstances or particularly heavy or valuable pieces during the estimate process, not after we have arrived. This allows us to make special arrangements and make sure we are fully equipped for any situation.
-
Take especially expensive or valuable items yourself, if possible. Be sure to pack and pad fragile items adequately. It’s very important to label fragile boxes “FRAGILE” so our movers are aware. We also recommend you group them in a corner, out of the way of moving traffic. Lampshades and globes must be removed and packed. We strongly recommend you move plants yourself. We strongly recommend you pack electronics in their original boxes.
-
We cannot move anything hazardous or explosive (including propane tanks, paint cans, turpentine, gasoline, etc.) We also do not move open or used household cleaning products such as bleach and the like.
